26 November 2011
We are very much privileged to be the organizer of the 2013 International Seminar on Cantonese Opera in Memory of the Centenary of Madam Yam Kim Fai (1913-1989).
One of the primary objectives of the Yam Kim Fai Research Project is to promote Cantonese opera which had been added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. We are a group of academics and lovers of Cantonese opera who intend to promote the beauty of this traditional art to the younger generation through the introduction and promotion of the art and achievements of Madam Yam Kim Fai who was indeed an outstanding figure and an icon of Hong Kong culture.
It is most encouraging that we have won the support of many renowned universities and cultural institutions from Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Australia to act as the joint organizers, co-organizers or supporters of this event. In addition, we are most delighted that numerous renowned scholars who are world authorities in the study of Chinese drama or in their corresponding disciplines have accepted our invitation to attend and deliver speeches at the 2013 Seminar.
We are confident that this Seminar would be a tremendous opportunity for all researchers and lovers of Cantonese opera to share and help to shed new lights on the study of Cantonese opera. We sincerely extend our invitation to you to participate in this event.
Look forward to seeing you all in 2013!
